Jewellery wipes cloth

When your jewellery gets tarnished or fadded, you can use mild soap and water to clean it - except for gemstones/crystals!

You can also use jewellery wipes cloth (left) to rub gently over the dirty part of the metal and crystal. The operative word is gently - rubbing too hard would make the outer layer of cheap metal to come off.

After you've cleaned your jewelleries, the dirt would be transferred onto the cloth (right).

After I made these, I kept thinking what is this name. At the same time, I also had a teacher called Ms Pearly who gave extra classes to everyone in my class so that we could score higher in exams. I had learnt a lot and it was under her guidance that I started to revise like a mad girl. Of course, thrown into the Best Class in school with suddenly competitive and really hard working classmates helped.

As much as I loved beading and designing jewelleries, interest in fashion and beauty; I thought it would be more noble to spend the time on charity, volunteering for causes, work hard and save money for rainy days.

I read some books on self-improvement, including Joseph Murphy - The Power of Your Subconscious Mind and Randy Gage - Why You're Dumb, Sick & Broke...And How to Get Smart, Healthy & Rich!

Both of them are big on positive thinking, visualization to manifest abundance. In their own different words, they wrote the same idea. When you think positively all the time, you will get the good stuff. I think Randy wrote about, "Why choose either one? Why choose to either do charity or buy the things that you want? You can do both!"

It made me realize that I shouldn't feel guilty over my time and effort in designing jewelleries. For, when my mother was hospitalized for TB - which at first we didn't know it was TB, I spent my time reading beading magazines and beading at the hospital bed besides going to the food court. After that, I continued and sold some to friends, online customers who "Oooh wahh, these are gorgeous! Who make them? You really?"

A lot of people buy gemstones (Aquamarine to protect you when you are travelling over water, Peridot to make you happier, Pearl to make you wiser and gentle, Amethyst for higher intuition and education, etc) hoping they would make their lives better, if not a drastic change. Of course, just saying "I'm wealthy" or wearing crystal bracelets worth RM1K but spend hard earned money on the latest speaker for your car every month isn't going to help you by bounds. If you want more effect, faster, you must help yourself and the stones by thinking positive and acting positively. Your subconscious, dreams, wishes must be parallel with your consciousness, what you say and do.

So what are you going to choose?

Choose health, abundance, happiness and success. Now. You deserve it. Choose to be good and be better person.

I just found 2 rings in my Easter Egg shell box. 1 of them is this, a gorgeous shiny ring shaped like a flower or butterfly?

Got this in KL for like, cheap. Years ago..

The pink part is actually Crystal AB. Due to the rainbow reflection, it appears as pinkish here.

The great thing about this ring - besides the gorgeous colours - is that it can be adjusted following your own finger size. :) When I design rings with wire, I'm going to follow the same principle too. It's versatile and can be worn by majority of sizes :)

Some Taoist or Buddhist (?) wear fu (a piece of paper with prayers written on it that has been prayed) and I encountered some negative experiences. I used to wear it when I was a baby, kid... till when I reached adulthood, I no longer prayed at the altar or temple. Except during Chinese New Year. Haha.

So I am wearing it again on and off, mostly to assure myself. Thinking positive sure helps.

But I needed something to protect and cover the fu. Previously mom kept it inside a sealable plastic and then stitch a small pouch but that was so old fashion (no pun intended, mom).

I've always loved velvet cloth. It's soft and classy. Easy to get stained and collect dust though. Still I thought it wouldn't be dirty much.

I thought of using small button to hook to the chain but mom said, "Must be red colour."

No red button at home.

So, I stitched the corners and used a red silk ribbon to hook up suede ribbon.

There's going to be several items spin off from Just Red. Stay tuned!

Some of the newer jewelleries have ruler indicator in the images. So that you can estimate the size of the jewelleries. Previously I used coins but people who are not familiar with Malaysia's coins would have to guess the size...

That ruler was actually a free gift from a (free too) seminar which I attended and got a free personal organizer hehe. I'm not using most of the stuff inside the personal organizer but the clear ruler is handy.

Doesn't the 1 with black background look more interesting? Yet when you wear it against your skin, you'll see the bracelet is not as striking as the picture. In a way, this can cause misinterpretation of the jewellery.

However, what if the jewellery is in white - like Crystal, Crystal AB? Do you notice that some of the Crystal AB and clear seed beads weren't noticeable in the white background? That's when you use a darker background - black or maybe skin tone.

Colourful bracelets

A few months back, I made 2 colourful bracelets. Actually I wanted to make a rainbow bracelet, much like this but then, I thought why not make a different combination colours?

1 thing about bracelets using nylon thread is it must be strong enough not to break when you stretch it. So you can stretch it before you string any beads and crystals onto it, then use double thread and knot with clear nail polish. The ends (threads) should go back inside the crystals and beads for safety and aesthetic.

The 1st one that I made was in yellow with lots of seed beads - I didn't have much more Light Topaz Swarovski crystals.. There's also Crystal AB for extra rainbow colours. It reminds me of sunshine. :)

The other one is red-blue-green. I had taken out amethyst and violet but they seemed out of place with these 3 colours. Most of my jewelleries are not symmetry based. I just like to take whichever seed beads and crystals and then view at them. If I like it, I'll add it onto the string. If it falls down, I'll pick up another colour. Think of it as a way of them telling me, "It's not my turn yet!"

The term Fashion Jewelry and Costume jewelry seem to be interchangeable. This is usually a base metal (non-precious) with a thin gold or silver finish.

Fine jewelry is a specific category of jewelry that is made with precious metals (gold, silver, platinum) and precious and semi-precious stones.

There is another category of jewelry that is called bridge jewelry that is in between costume and fine jewelry. This would be jewelry that is made with Gold filled or sterling and semi-precious or common stones like jasper or agate.

Designer jewelry generally refers to jewelry that is not mass produced. It is not a specific classification and can refer to jewelry made from many different materials. Artistic would be another good word to describe Designer jewelry.

A lot of rugged and classic jewelleries use Suede string. It can look casual and sportive yet luxurious - it depends what the suede string holds.

Other retailers are selling more than RM3 for 100cm suede string.

You can buy 100cm (length) with 0.3cm (width) of Suede string in black colour at my account in Tumpang. Tumpang works by pooling people who want the same thing and lower the price of the items. :)

I love rainbows. They are a sign of beautiful things can happen after rain and sunlight (opposite forces) mixed together.

This is my first Swarovski crystal bracelet. Bought at Above in 1U with customization on the colours. However, the colours are not as stunning as here anymore because I had worn it for about 2 years, I think. So I rarely wear it and put it in a box instead.

There are people who believe visualizing rainbow can help in health, career and relationships via chakra.

When you delete an email in Gmail, every conversation /thread under that email in Inbox or other labels is deleted too! *sob*

There's no male drawings uploaded simply because I suck at drawing males! They all look either too masculine or too feminine. Probably because drawing female is so much more interesting and satisfying.. Or I didn't practice enough on drawing the males.

I hadn't drawn in many years. I suddenly realized what a waste it was! So I took out the drawing block that brother didn't use anymore. But it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be! The ideas didn't come as fast as last time..

Like when one of my friends likes the Cherries in Rose colour from this bracelet but he wanted a necklace, I mixed the Cherries together with a necklace. Voila!

How do I take care of the jewelleries?

In order to maintain the colour and design of the jewelleries, you can store them in a pouch (silk or velvet preferably) or in a box where they are not exposed to air. This is to prevent oxidation on some of the metal and losing colour vibrancy.

Don't ever spray fragrance or anything alcoholic (even moisturizers) onto the jewelleries.

If you have to go for scanning or checkup with your doctor, facial/manicure/pedicure, hair treatment, household chores like washing dishes & clothes - do remove your jewelleries.

Don't wear jewellery if you are going for vigorous activities like camping, exercising, swimming (the chlorine!), theme park adventures, etc.

To clean the jewelleries, you can use a lint-free cloth to rub the metallic parts gently. You can buy a piece of such cloth here for RM3. A little piece of cloth goes a long way. Once the whole cloth is dirty, you can buy another piece of cloth. No need to rinse the cloth.

Some people clean jewelleries by soaking them into salt sea water or just fresh water under the moonlight or sunlight (mind the temperature - not too hot or cold).

Why is the colour of the jewellery different from your images online?

I hold the jewellery in hand and adjust the colours in the image to the closest. However, the colours may appear different under different lighting (natural sunlight/moonlight, white or yellowish light), monitor and graphics settings.

Sigh. I see the item that I like is under sold or unavailable category.

Please email De Mystic Box on which item. I can make a similar design or double check with my suppliers.

Why is your stuff so cheap?

De Mystic Box operates from home so there's less cost in manpower, store/booth rental, etc.

Why is your stuff so expensive? I see a lot of companies selling jewelleries at 3 for RM10! And I can get much cheaper fragrances than yours!

De Mystic Box jewelleries are handmade - it takes talent, time, creativity and patience to create a piece. The imported jewelleries (not handmade, at least not by me) are personally selected by quality and aesthetic value.

Be wary of imitation fragrance. They may have the same packaging and the bottle even look like a real one but they don't smell the same and have much lower quality.

I get my fragrances from the fragrance industry directly, that is why I can offer cheaper price.

'Princess' wedding

A classmate just got married in clean, fresh Malay wedding reception. For her wedding, I decided to give her something I made instead of giving angpao.

Shopping tips for accessories/jewelleries

If you have a specific type of cut/design/style of apparel in mind to match - say you want to wear a cowl neck gown to your cousin's wedding and you need to find jewelleries to match that gown - you can wear a similar neckline cut (you don't have to wear that gown shopping!) to shop so that you can estimate the look when you actually wear the jewelleries with your gown.

If you don't have any similar collar/style, you can always go to department stores and ask the promoters if you could just try a similar cut gown to match the jewelleries. Most promoters wouldn't mind if you ask nicely first and return the gown in the original condition (no makeup marks!).

Or you can pull your collar gently to make it into the specific style you have in mind.

When you don't have a specific apparel to match your jewelleries/accessories, then look for any pieces that catch your eyes. Then think which item that you already have that you can match it with.

Also, what your friend likes may not be the same style as yours so keep that in mind, you are the one wearing it. If you love it and know the reason (or not, you just feel it's so you), then go ahead. Unless you need the money to spend on other essential things like food, rent, bills, save the world.

Try it under yellow and white lighting. If you can access natural light, all the better. Unless you stay in 1 lighting all the time ;)

Simple vs complicated

I love simple and small jewelleries. To see and admire. Not to wear it because I feel it's too dramatic to wear huge chunks of intricate designs. However, once in awhile, I come across really delicate and complicated jewelleries and I love it! Beaders who stitch thousands of seed beads and crystals to make lace necklaces are.. wow.

Fusion Beads has a really complete Crystal Color Chart. The only thing it can improve is the navigation. Using Firefox browser, I have to click on the link to load on the same page instead of tab and then if I want to view another or previous page, I have to reclick to load it in the same page. Unless you open a lot of tabs of the same webpage then click on from there.
